Villa Sträuli
The Villa Sträuli is an artists' villa par excellence and has a great ambition: to offer artists from all genres and the culturally aware a venue to meet. Here international guest artists take up residence for several months and bring the flair of the wide world to Winterthur.
In close vicinity to the Kunstmuseum, the concert hall in the Stadthaus and the Theater Winterthur, for quite some time a new cultural life has been sprouting in the Villa Sträuli. Cultural and private functions take place in the parlours of the stylishly renovated house, the bistro with its exquisite garden invites you to stay during the summer months and foreign guest artists live and work on the upper floor. During their stay they enrich not only the villa with their work and performances: thanks to diverse co-operations a number of these also have the opportunity to present their work elsewhere in the city.
Already within the lifetime of Doris Sträuli-Keller the musical soirées in her villa were widely known. The Stiftung Sulzberg has ensured that this tradition is kept alive. As carrier of the Villa Sträuli it organises weekly Saturday matinées with musical delights during the season. Once a month is offered during the winter months from October to March, the "culture broth". This is a nice alternative to the routine lunch break only a homemade, freshly made soup, then a half-hour concert, a lecture or a stimulating conversation. Conclusion of the event over coffee and cake. Villa Sträuli's own events run under the name "Kultursalon" and generally take place on a Tuesday night.
