Museum Oskar Reinhart am Stadtgarten
Since 1951 the former grammar school at the city park houses around 600 pictures and drawings by Swiss, German and Austrian artists. We owe this to the Winterthur art patron Oskar Reinhart.
Oskar Reinhart came from a wealthy Winterthur family and he shaped the artistic life of the city like no other. Already at an early age Reinhart committed himself to establishing his collection. One thing was clear: his art treasures were to be made accessible to the public. Oskar Reinhart's passion for art is still noticeable today when you wander through the rooms of the museum. The rooms, affectionately equipped with stylish period furniture, lend the museum a private atmosphere and invite you to stay.
The 27 paintings by Ferdinand Hodler constitute one of the focal points of the collection. Furthermore you will find unexpected treasures in the Museum Oskar Reinhart am Stadtgarten: for example famous paintings such as the "Kreidefelsen auf Rügen" ("Chalk Cliffs of Rügen") by Caspar David Friedrich can be admired here.
