Museum for Applied Arts and Design
With its creative exhibitions the museum attracts the curious in droves. Whether colour, light, food design or shoes - the Museum for Applied Arts and Design has a knack of staging the familiar in an unfamiliar way on every new occasion.
Established in 1874 and reopened in 1999 with a contemporary new look, the Museum for Applied Arts and Design moves along the interface of functionality und design, craft and industrial production. In changing exhibitions the museum deals with design in all its facets and provides surprising, extraordinary and sensuous insights into everyday culture of now and then. This makes the Museum for Applied Arts and Design unique in Switzerland.
In workshops students can experience the properties of the different materials and manufacturing processes firsthand. Public guided tours and encounters with designers permit an in-depth examination of the exhibits. When your throat gets dry or your stomach rumbles, the "Grand Café du Musée" will provide relief – during winter indoors where it is nice and warm, during summer in the cosy courtyard. You will find unusual and special objects in the museum shop.
