Mörsburg
Surrounded by greenery on a range of hills to the east of Winterthur lies the medieval castle of Mörsburg with its chequered history. Here you can find a historic museum specialising in exhibits from the 17th and 18th century.
After a leisurely walk including a short climb or a quick car ride you will reach the defiant Mörsburg. The castle was mentioned as property of the Counts of Kyburg for the first time in 1241. We owe the early Gothic chapel to them, which the counts had built around 1250. Over the following centuries the famous noble families of the Habsburgs and the Goldenbergers took over the castle before it passed into possession of the City of Winterthur in 1598.
Since 1901 the Mörsburg has been at the disposal of the Historischer Verein Winterthur (Winterthur Historical Society) as a museum. Besides furniture and everyday objects from the 17th and 18th century, the museum also possesses an outstanding collection of arms and armour as well as glass objects.
