Musikkollegium

Winterthur
The Musikkollegium is Switzerland's oldest orchestra. Nevertheless, every now and then it ventures something new. Whether as a classical orchestra accompanying the Zurich Festival fireworks display, at an open-air performance on the occasion of the "Winterthurer Musikfestwochen" festival or traditionally in the Stadthaus concert hall - the Musikkollegium Winterthur is as popular as ever.

The 50-strong orchestra gives approximately 70 concerts per season. Around 40 of these take place in the Winterthur Stadthaus, the recently restored magnificent building by the famous architect Gottfried Semper.

The concert structure, newly launched in the 2006/07 season and consistently geared to target groups, has further strengthened the reputation of the Musikkollegium as an innovative concert promoter in the region. Under the direction of Jac van Steen the Musikkollegium Winterthur has produced an array of recordings with works from the 20th century for the CD label MDG, which has attracted a lot of international attention.
The ensemble also increasingly makes guest appearances during important concert series at home and abroad and gives gala concerts for non-profit organisations and companies.
