City Park

The elegant city park with its mighty trees, carefully placed sculptures and cultivated brilliant display of flowers is the "green lung" right in the centre. The "Barockhäuschen" (Baroque Cottage) is evidence of a time when the people of Winterthur used to enjoy the summer resort here.

In the 18th century, gardens were set out on the area of the present-day city park and small weekend or summer cottages provided accommodation. The city's residents came here in order to enjoy the fresh air outside of the city walls. During the 60's the present-day city park was developed within the scope of a design competition. Various rare species of trees make the city park special; for example here you can find American sequoias, a cutleaf beech, a real sugar maple or a rare horse chestnut.
