Afro-Pfinsten (Afro-Whitsun)

At Whitsun Winterthur presents its multicultural side: Africa is coming to visit! For many years now the cultural festival has brought an exuberant vitality into the city.

At the market you can hear drums, marketeers haggle noisily and exotic fragrances are in the air – now it is Whitsun in Winterthur. In the daytime those who are interested learn African cooking or dancing, whilst in the evening African superstars sing at the Sulzerareal and the cinemas show African films. However, the festival offers much more. The cultural fringe events extend from theatre through art exhibitions to church services. Africa is not the only focus: at the World Bazaar the horizon is broad and often artists from other countries of the world, who have devoted themselves to "black" music, make a guest appearance.
