ZHAW Graduation Procession

When the bearded tailcoat-wearers are en route in the streets of Winterthur, the city knows: a new generation of engineers has graduated from the former Technikum. With an original procession through the Old Town they celebrate their graduation.

The tradition lives on: although for years the Technikum has only been an individual department of the Fachhochschule (University of Applied Sciences), the degree activities of the Tech students remain an inherent part of student life in Winterthur. In clothes from the time of the foundation of the Technikum the prospective engineers celebrate the "Frackwoche" (tailcoat week), which culminates in the big procession. The pride of the tailcoat-wearers are the self-created vehicles, which can hardly be beaten in terms of originality.
